Cats are my passion plus I love gardening….I love herbs and flowers….so why not combine them all in one? Create an indoor cat garden that is sure to please your feline family members! It’s easy and fun. All you need is a container, plants, a little gravel and potting soil.
Your cats will love their little piece of the outdoors!
Make sure to use herbs and flowers that are cat-friendly. I’ve found that mine are particularly fond of catnip, spearmint and lemon grass. This time I used those three herbs as well as curled parsley, rosemary, lemon thyme and marigolds for flair! My cats are indoor only, and they love the tastes and smells of fresh plants and flowers. I also have an enclosed outdoor catio and enjoy adding another cat garden out there….I can never seem to spoil my cats enough!
It’s fun and easy!
Find a cute container and make sure that the floor is protected from water damage. I use a tin container placed on a clay saucer inside of a larger tin pot. You get the picture I want to make sure that my flooring stays nice! Since my smaller tin planter didn’t come with drainage holes, I improvised (because plants need to be in soil that will drain) and drilled about six small drainage holes in the bottom. Be sure to water well after planting and then water as needed. Plants may be gobbled up, and they can be replaced and try to mix it up a bit and plant something new in its place. The cat garden is in my bedroom by a patio door where my cats love to sun themselves. I added a fun cat themed throw rug….you get the picture….around here it’s cats, cats and more cats!
Adopt a friend today!
Whether your cats are enjoying their cat garden or lounging in their favorite chair, it’s just fun to make them happy! The cat garden is fragrant and fun so even if you don’t have cats it will make a lovely little herb garden by a sunny window in your kitchen or on your front porch in warm weather. Or better still if you don’t have a cat go to your nearest shelter and rescue one! If adoption isn’t possible, consider making a donation of time or money to a pet rescue or shelter!
